Information collected during remote support sessions

See the dedicated Remote Support Sessions section for full details about what is collected when you use our HelpWire-powered remote assistance service.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely for legitimate business purposes:

  • Responding to inquiries and scheduling consultations
  • Delivering contracted consulting services and project deliverables
  • Providing remote technical support during scheduled sessions
  • Sending relevant project updates, invoices, and business communications
  • Improving website content, performance, and user experience
  • Complying with applicable legal and contractual obligations
  • Maintaining records of completed engagements for reference and warranty purposes

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not use your information for automated profiling, behavioral advertising, or any purpose unrelated to delivering consulting services to you.

Remote Support Sessions

Our remote support service uses HelpWire, a professional remote access platform. This section explains exactly what happens to your data during a remote session.

How remote sessions work

  • Sessions are on-demand and attended only — we cannot connect to your computer unless you actively open the app and click Grant Access.
  • Sessions only take place during confirmed, scheduled appointments or while you are on an active call with Mike.
  • All session traffic is encrypted end-to-end using AES-256 with TLS/SSL protocols.
  • No persistent access is installed. The session closes completely when either party disconnects.

What HelpWire collects

When a remote session is established, HelpWire may collect the following technical information on its platform: your computer name, operating system, screen resolution, and connection metadata (IP address, session duration, timestamps). This data is used solely to facilitate and log the support session.

Session recording

We do not routinely record remote support sessions. If a session recording is ever needed for documentation or training purposes, you will be informed and asked for your consent before recording begins.

Data you share during a session

During a session, we may view your screen and interact with files or applications as necessary to resolve your issue. We will not access, copy, or retain files, credentials, or data beyond what is necessary to complete the support task. Any notes taken are kept as internal records for the engagement.

HelpWire privacy

HelpWire is the data processor for remote session infrastructure. Their privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy, available at helpwire.app. We encourage you to review it.

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Information may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers and tools

We use a small number of trusted third-party tools to operate this website and deliver services. These include:

  • HelpWire — remote session infrastructure (see Remote Support section above)
  • Email / calendar providers — for scheduling and business correspondence
  • Web hosting and CDN providers — for delivering website content
  • Web analytics — for understanding site usage in aggregate (no individual profiling)

These providers are permitted to use your information only to the extent necessary to perform services on our behalf and are required to protect it appropriately.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of MikeCarey.Tech, our clients, or others.

Business transfers

In the event this consulting practice is transferred, merged, or wound down, client information may be transferred as part of that transition. You would be notified of any such change and your options.

Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law:

  • Contact inquiries: Retained for up to 2 years from last contact, unless an engagement follows.
  • Active client records: Retained for the duration of the engagement plus 5 years, consistent with standard business record-keeping practices and applicable tax and contract law.
  • Remote session logs: Technical session metadata (connection time, computer name, OS) is retained by HelpWire per their retention policy. Our own session notes are retained as part of the client record above.
  • Website analytics: Aggregate and anonymized; retained per the terms of the analytics provider used.

When retention periods expire, information is securely deleted or anonymized.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse:

  • This website is served over HTTPS with TLS encryption
  • Remote sessions use AES-256 end-to-end encryption and TLS/SSL
  • Access to client records is limited to Mike Carey
  • Business email is protected with standard authentication controls (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
  • Devices used for consulting work are password-protected and kept up to date with security patches

No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information using commercially reasonable means, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your information has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
